Running at its 17th edition, for the first time, participation in the Furniture Design Award (FDA) 2010 Young Designers category is extended worldwide. In the past, this category was only open to the Asia Pacific region.

FDA 2010 Students and Young Designers categories saw an awesome increment of more than 90% in the entries submission. A total of 1,004 entries from America, Australia, Canada, China, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom and Vietnam were submitted. 31 entries were selected during the Preliminary Judging to vie for a place in the Semi Final Judging Interview held on 27 October 2009.

FDA 2010 is organized by SFIC, supported by DesignSingapore Council, International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, SPRING Singapore, American Hardwood Export Council, Designers Association Singapore, Interior Design Confederation (Singapore), Singapore Institute of Architects, IFFS Pte Ltd and Transit Air Cargo (Singapore) Pte Ltd. The American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) is the leading international trade association for the US hardwood industry, representing the committed US hardwood exporters and most of the major US hardwood product trade associations in the United States.

THEME

No theme is given for participation in across all three categories in FDA 2010 - Students, Young Designers and Open. Participants are given free reign with their furniture creations.

Students Category
Open to full-time students from educational institutions in ASEAN (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, The Philippines and Vietnam)

Young Designers Category
Open to all, aged 35 years and below as of 1 March 2010

Open Category
Open to participants from all over the world, on a company basis, with entries that have been manufactured and launched commercially in the market.
