Lorenzo carving niche in luxury sofas

LORENZO International is eyeing a niche in the international furniture market by producing sofas embellished with Swarovski crystals.

“Although the economic recession has crimped sales of high-end products, rich people in some countries don't seem to be affected too much. They find the fancy sofas go well in their luxury homes,” said Lorenzo's Executive Chairman, Mr James Goh.

Fifteen sets of 'exclusive' Swarovski crystal sofas - priced between $12,800 and $48,000 - have been snapped up so far and 250 'normal' sets - priced from $6,800 to $8,400 - have also been sold.

The made-to-order sofas have proved most popular in Malaysia, the Middle East and India since they were introduced in February.

Lorenzo is now working to embellish Swarovski crystals into wooden furniture. For instance, door handles may soon come encrusted with Swarovski crystals.

Opening of Singapore's largest reclaimed wood furniture showroom to boost nascent “green Furniture” movement in Singapore and regionally

Spanning more than 5,000 square feet at the Alexandra Industrial Estate, an area formerly known for its automobile showrooms, Singapore's largest reclaimed wood furniture showroom will put the zing into the nascent “green furniture” movement.

At its official opening on 17 April 2009, Ms Anita Sam, Co-Founder and Director of the company, explained, “d-Bodhi uses only reclaimed wood to produce our range of exquisite, handcrafted furniture. Our furniture pieces are distinguished by the blemishes inherent in the wood used, which we feel is part of its natural beauty – every split and gap, every scar and chink is a pleasure to behold. Using processes certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), we bring old wood back to life by handcrafting them into beautiful, functional and innovative furniture pieces. This way, our customers can have their own forest at home and be an ecological warrior at the same time.”

Old Wood, New Life, No Waste
“Old Wood, New Life, No Waste” embodies the d-Bodhi story, which enjoyed an enthusiastic reception at the recently concluded International Furniture Fair Singapore 2009/26th ASEAN Furniture Show, where d-Bodhi was conferred the Best Bedroom Furniture Award by the international jury panel.

“The time has come for Singapore, with its status as an international furniture hub, to take the lead in driving awareness of eco-furniture production in the region,” added Ms Sam. In keeping with the company's philosophy, d-Bodhi aims to breathe “new life” into an industrial estate known for its automobile showrooms. Ms Sam said, “The Alexandra Industrial Estate is fast becoming a lifestyle hub and d-Bodhi is excited to contribute to the exciting developments here. By opening our flagship store in Singapore amidst the economic downturn, we are asserting our confidence that the market has matured as discerning consumers seek out premium furniture lines that reflect their personal values of quality, artistry and environment-friendliness.”

Completeness, innovation and sustainability
d-Bodhi's new eco-friendly furniture lines Fissure, Lucy, Trapesium, Lekk and Octa, which were unveiled at the official opening, reflect the growing demand for collections that are comprehensive, innovative and sustainable.

Its Lucy and Trapezium lines embody completeness whilst offering innovation and sustainability. The sliding doors of the Lucy shelves defy the traditional open-and-close concept, whilst the Trapezium range has legs that protrude provocatively.

Leader in environmental awareness
Going forward, d-Bodhi, a leader in wood reclamation in Yogyakarta and one of the first few companies to achieve the global Forest Stewardship Certification (FSC) in Indonesia, will work closely with various government agencies and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) to spearhead initiatives to raise environmental awareness at its showroom.

In time to come, d-Bodhi hopes its flagship store will be a must-see destination for aficionados of eco-friendly furniture.
