Networking opportunities (and pigs), that is, at the SFIC’s 2019 Chinese New Year Luncheon.

Held at the Trade Association Hub’s level one auditorium, a few floors below the SFIC office, the CNY event was well attended by over 200 guests. A spacious and comfortable hall, the auditorium has been the venue of choice for similar events by other trade associations.

SFIC’s annual Chinese New Year Luncheon has been a happy occasion for industry friends fresh from their CNY holiday break. The 2019 edition has been no exception.

Adding to the festive mood in the year of the Boar, the “Find the Pigs’’ game segment featuring the PYTHA solution software application, showed the fun side of the software which is typically used to help designers to streamline the design process.

Besides recounting the achievements for the previous year, SFIC President Mark Yong also shared on the new  SFIC Design Innovation Programme (DIP) that is supported by Enterprise Singapore under the LEAD Programme.  Developed in line with the vision of Design 2025, one of the goals of DIP is to spur Singapore-based furniture and furnishings manufacturers or brands to partner either local or foreign firms & designers to design, produce and launch commercially viable products.

The traditional Lion dance performance and Lo-Hei made its rounds for the seated lunch event, graced by Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry Mr Chee Hong Tat, who also launched the furniture industry’s digital technology roadmap.

With a range of solutions designed to create a seamless online-to-offline customer purchase experience, furniture retailers can pick and choose the solutions needed to streamline their business processes and enhance their customer service.

Five key furniture retail leaders, Commune, Cellini, Furniture Club, Scanteak and Star Furniture, each with a strong retail presence, were invited to jointly develop the customer-centric experience technology map with SFIC and Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA).  Major pain points that are impeding the drive towards digitalisation were being identified. Companies that are either unsure of how to take the first step or face challenges in getting employee buy-in or when presented with data collection capability, would need guidance to come up with questions that align with their business objectives.

To help industry players get up to speed, the SFIC will be working closely with Enterprise Singapore and IMDA to launch a series of awareness workshops in the next few months with other initiatives to follow.
